A man with no previous convictions "entered the criminal sphere in a blaze of glory" when he was busted drink driving, a judge says.
Samual Douglas Kauiku was a first offender, but was stopped by police on June 19 on Victoria Ave and found to be more than four times over the legal alcohol limit.
A breath test showed Kauiku had 1005mcg of alcohol in his system. The legal limit is 250mcg.
The 25-year-old pleaded guilty in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Judge Patrick Treston fined him $1000, $130 court costs, and disqualified him from driving for 10 months.
