Canterbury businessman John Condon facing sex charges has two more alleged victims come forward

Canterbury businessman John Michael Condon is now facing more than 20 sex charges.

A Canterbury businessman accused of paying underage girls and young women for sex has had two more victims come forward and is now facing 23 sex charges spanning almost 20 years.

John Michael Condon, a 61-year old who ran Christchurch firm CRC Salvage and Demolition, denies the charges of rape, sexual violation and indecent assault dating back to 1999.

He was first arrested last year and appeared at Christchurch District Court.

Today, seven new charges of rape and sexual violation were laid at court when Condon appeared at a pre-trial callover.

The new charges allege that between February 15, 2005 and April 21, 2006 he raped a female on four occasions, and sexually violated her twice. The charges do not state how old she was.

Another charge alleges that between July 2, 1999 and June 12, 2000 he indecently assaulted a girl then aged 16.

Earlier charges involved alleged offences to have occurred between January 1, 2006 and October 19, 2014, including three relating to three girls aged 13 and 14, of encouraging them to "provide commercial sexual services" to him.

He also faces charges of sexual violation of a 4-year old girl and attempted indecent assault of a 3-year old girl.

Condon, listed as a company director from Lansdowne in the Selwyn district, had name suppression lapse earlier.

Defence Craig Ruane today said he pleads not guilty to all charges and has elected trial by jury.

Judge Raoul Neave remanded Condon in custody for another pre-trial callover on August 11.
