KEY POINTS:
A Hastings service station was robbed last night by two men, one of whom was wielding an axe or bar, police said today.
The pair entered the Shell Parkvale service station on Heretaunga St East about 9.20pm, and left with cigarettes, tobacco and cash.
Detective Kristina Eckhold, of Hastings, said it was thought the pair ran from the service station to Park Rd North, and had a getaway car waiting in Queen St.
The men were both Maori, between 1.7m and 1.8m, and of solid build, she said.
Police wish to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Parkvale area.
Ms Eckhold said the station attendant was shaken but unhurt.
