KEY POINTS:
Documents containing sensitive information about high-risk criminals are back in the hands of the Corrections Department.
The Herald, at the request of police, tonight handed over its copies of the report.
The Herald was shown the document, headed ``High Risk/High Profile Offenders - Pending New Zealand Parole Board Hearings', on Thursday.
It was found on Wednesday next to a seat in St Patrick's Square near the Auckland District Court, and contains names and possible release addresses.
A news story about the document and its loss, which did not include compromising details, was published in yesterday's paper. It later became clear, from an intermediary, that the source of the material wanted the paper to hold it.
When police requested its return, under a District Court order, the material was handed over.
Editor Tim Murphy said the paper's policy is not to pass on material provided to it by sources, unless exceptional circumstances existed or there was a requirement under law.
