Crews have managed to contain a big blaze at high country farm Otematata Station in North Otago.
A Fire Service spokesman said the 1km by 1.5km blaze between Otematata and Omarama started about 1.30pm today and had threatened to close State Highway 83.
Firefighters from Otematata, Omarama, Kurow and Waitaki District Council rural fire attended.
Two helicopters also tackled the blaze on the 400sq m property.
It was believed no houses were threatened and there were no evacuations.
