KEY POINTS:
The crew of the crippled Japanese whaling vessel Nisshin Maru were continuing last night to try to restart its engines, after resisting offers of help from Greenpeace and others.
A crewman was killed in a fire in the Ross Sea early on Thursday and fears have been raised of an oil spill in Antarctic waters.
Maritime NZ spokesman Steve Corbett said talks with the Nisshin Maru late yesterday afternoon had established that the crew had had no luck yet in restarting the engines.
