The cremation wall at Masterton's Riverside Cemetery has been demolished and the land on which it stood is in the process of being returned to turf.
Contractors have taken away the stone and cement walls that held the ashes of many deceased people and which have now been transferred to other locations in line with the wishes of the families involved.
Masterton District Council let a tender to have the wall demolished as it was feared it was in danger of disintegrating after slowly deteriorating.
The wall was constructed many years ago during the tenure of parks and reserves expert Colin Pugh.
