Police have blamed car thieves for an early morning road crash involving a single vehicle near Carterton yesterday.
Senior Sergeant Carolyn Watson, of Masterton police, said the crash happened on SH2 about 600m north of the Clareville turnoff at about 4.30am.
The car was a silver Honda Prelude that had the ignition barrel tampered with and police suspect the vehicle had been stolen. There were no passengers found with the car, she said.
Police recovered another vehicle that also had the ignition barrel removed during its theft overnight from a Carterton home. The Toyota car was found abandoned in the middle of the road in Taranaki St in Masterton, she said.
Police are appealing for information.
