A woman killed in a crash near Raglan yesterday leaves behind a four-month-old child, police said today.
Julia Bernadette Borgoo, 29, was killed and two others were seriously injured when her station wagon hit an oncoming car on SH23 before 9am.
She leaves behind a four-month-old child and a 29-year-old partner, police said.
Waikato Road Policing Manager, Inspector Leo Tooman said the accident should never have happened.
"The tragic part of this whole situation is the avoidability of her death, too many people on Waikato roads are being killed or seriously injured by not sticking to the left, we need to modify our driving behaviour which includes driving to the conditions."
The crash was one of a run of crashes that Waikato and the Western Bay of Plenty yesterday.
Just before 8am, a driver was killed when his truck crashed on SH30 between Upper Atiamuri and SH5.
Police said the driver died as a result of injuries sustained when he was trapped in the truck cab.
Rotorua police were investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
An American tourist also died after his southbound car and a northbound car collided on SH25 near Whitianga at 12:26pm yesterday, police said.
The man and the driver of the other car were airlifted to Auckland Hospital, where the tourist later died.
His American passenger was being treated in Thames Hospital.
Police would not reveal the dead man's name until family overseas were notified, Mr Tooman said.
