A teenage girl whose sister died in the crash she suffered critical injuries in has come out of a long day's worth of surgery at Middlemore Hospital.
Sunmara Alexander is being described as a fighter after she endured yet another difficult operation since the crash last Wednesday, in Christchurch's Port Hills, that resulted in the death of her older sister, 17-year-old Tayla Alexander.
Their father shared on social media site Facebook that his younger daughter had "aced" her surgery yesterday.
"She has made another day - so, so happy. The girl is a fighter," her proud dad, Jason Alexander, wrote.
A spokesperson for Middlemore Hospital said Sunmara remained in a critical condition.
