Crash victim remains in a serious condition

A 20-year-old man remains in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit after a crash in the Waikato last night.

The man's car went off the road north of Gordonton.

No other vehicle was involved.

The holiday period road death toll currently stands at three.

In the latest fatality, a 17-year-old woman lost her life when her car crashed at Raupunga, in northern Hawkes Bay this morning.

Police believe there were five people in the vehicle.

Three were treated at Wairoa Hospital.

Ten people are have been hospitalised, three with critical injuries, after a crash involving a truck and up to four cars in Hawkes Bay.

There are delays on State Highway 2 as a result of the accident, just north of Otane.

The northbound lane is blocked and diversions are being put in place.
