New Plymouth police have named a 40-year-old man who was killed when his car hit a power pole on Carrington Rd, about 10.15pm on Sunday. He was Phillip Raymond Batten of New Plymouth.
24-year-old Richard Starr Harmer, from Hastings, died and three others were seriously injured after the car they were in crashed into a tree near Napier on Saturday. Police said speed was a likely factor in the crash.
