Two people are dead and five others are in hospital after an overloaded vehicle carrying seven people rolled this morning near Foxton, 20km north of Levin.
One man and one woman had died and five were taken to hospital, some with serious injuries, Constable Spot Lowe of Palmerston North police said.
All occupants of the car were in their late teens and early twenties. The accident happened on Foxton Beach Rd, just before 5am.
The car had ripped up phone wires when it crashed, although any issues relating to this had been resolved and the road had been re-opened, Sergeant Mark Oliver told NZPA.
