A motorcyclist was seriously hurt after crashing into road barriers on the Featherston side of the Rimutaka Hill yesterday evening.
The 40-year-old man was stabilised by Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics on the scene and Life Flight's Westpac Rescue Helicopter transported him to Wellington Hospital.
A Wellington Free Ambulance spokesperson said the man's condition was Status 2, "quite serious with a leg injury".
Life Flight crewman Logan Taylor attended the crash and said the man had been riding along and was "hit by the wind real bad" which caused him to crash into the barrier, 2km north from the summit.
"When we got there, he was conscious with moderate injuries," Mr Taylor said.
