A pilot whose Cessna 182 crash-landed at Gisborne Airport this morning had no warning until it happened.
The three occupants, two Wellington men and a ten-year-old boy, escaped uninjured.
Sergeant Gregory Lexmond says the front wheel snapped off sending the plane skidding 50m along the grass runway before it came to a halt.
He believes the aircraft will be able to be repaired, as it only sustained minimal damage to the under- carriage.
The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating.
