A three-car smash involving eight people closed State Highway 2 and brought traffic to a standstill near Tauranga yesterday. Two women with serious injuries, and a male with moderate injuries were taken to Tauranga Hospital.
Eight people were in the collision between a Mazda station wagon, Subaru Forester and Nissan ute at 1.35pm. Police said a vehicle collided with oncoming traffic after it was hit from behind and sent across the centre line.
Diversions were in place along Te Puna Rd and Te Puna Station Rd for several hours before the road was cleared.
The Tauranga Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
