KEY POINTS:
A 17-year-old man was killed when the car he was driving crashed off State Highway 2 south of Hastings last night.
Police said Carlston Katu Tamoe, from Hastings, died after losing control of his car while travelling north at Te Hauke and rolling it several times.
Three other people had to be cut from the car and were taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with injuries ranging from serious to moderate.
Sergeant Ray Kirkby said the crash happened at about 8.15pm at the intersection of Waikareao Rd.
The crash was still being investigated and police wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen the car, a grey four-door saloon, travelling between Waipukarau and Te Aute in the time leading up to the crash.
Police closed the highway at about 8.30pm and put diversions in place.
