Crash causing heavy congestion on SH1 north of Auckland

There's heavy congestion on State Highway 1 north of Auckland after a truck and a car collided earlier today.

The incident happened at the intersection of SH1 and Hungry Creek Rd, just north of Puhoi about 4.20pm, police said.

Both lanes were clear by 5pm, but traffic built up meant commuters could expect delays, the NZ Transport Agency said.

"Please use SH16 if possible as congestion is very heavy," the agency said on Twitter.

Despite blocking traffic the crash was otherwise minor, police said.

No injuries were reported.
