KEY POINTS:
An investigation into methamphetamine dealing by the Porirua Mongrel Mob has yielded around $160,000 worth of the illicit drug that would otherwise have made it on to the streets, police said today.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam of Porirua said four arrests had been made for possession of methamphetamine for supply.
The arrests were part of an ongoing investigation by police into methamphetamine dealing by the Porirua Mongrel Mob.
Mr Oxnam said the arrests would put a dent in the methamphetamine market.
About 160g of methamphetamine, with a street value estimated at $160,000, had been recovered.
Police had also recovered a large amount of what they believed to be stolen property, the result of thefts from cars throughout Kapiti, Porirua, Wellington and the Hutt Valley, Mr Oxnam said.
"The quantity of property seized from this one address is a stark reminder that people need to keep valuable property out of sight.
"There are some very active criminals taking advantage of the public's lack of vigilance about their property."
A 40-year-old man appeared in Wellington District Court yesterday charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply. He was remanded in custody until June 1.
Another man, aged 39, was charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply and was remanded on bail.
A 25-year-old man pleaded guilty in Porirua District Court to possession of methamphetamine for supply, relating to 60 grams (estimated street value: $60,000) and $40,000 worth of cash found at his address.
On June 3, a 32-year-old man will appear in Porirua District Court for a pre-depositions hearing relating to possession of $97,000 of cash which the police believe relate to his and the Porirua Mongrel Mob's methamphetamine dealing.
