Waikato police were forced to destroy seven cows this morning after they wandered onto the road and were hit by two large vehicles.
A herd of 20 to 30 cattle escaped from a farm near Gordonton, north of Hamilton, and around 2am was hit by both a four-wheel-drive and a truck and trailer unit.
Police said the impact caused extensive damage to the front of the four-wheel-drive while the truck sustained only broken headlights.
Neither driver was hurt.
