The body of a mountain biker missing in a rugged Wellington park was found yesterday afternoon.
Family members of Lance Kaiki found his body in Belmont Regional Park lying face-down in a stream after apparently crashing off the track.
The 43-year-old painting contractor had gone into the park on Thursday, excited to be cycling a track he'd previously walked. Police began searching on Friday and he was found yesterday about 11am.
His wife Debbie Kaiki said: "He loved the outdoors. He was looking forward to this bike ride and he was so happy that day. I said to him, 'will you be safe?' He said 'yes' and we said our goodbyes."
She dropped him off at about 2.20pm and when he did not return, she notified police.
