Justice William Young has been named as the new president of the Court of Appeal.
Attorney-General David Parker announced the appointment this week.
Justice Young replaces Justice Noel Anderson who was appointed a Supreme Court judge.
Justice Young graduated from Canterbury University and Cambridge University and joined the Christchurch firm of RA Young Hunter and Co in 1978, leaving in 1988 to practise as a barrister.
He was appointed a QC in 1991, a High Court judge in 1997 and a judge of the Court of Appeal in 2003.
