Security measures were beefed up in Hamilton District Court yesterday for the start of the trial of two Whitianga men accused of bullying a Coromandel man for money.
After the jury had been empanelled for the trial of Sean Marsh, 35, and Terry Willigers, 42, security staff cordoned off the door and passed scanners and metal detectors over people entering the courtroom.
The men each deny six charges including assault, theft, injuring with intent to injure, wilful damage and two counts of demanding with menaces relating to several incidents in 2002 and 2003.
