Former TV host and radio journalist Peter Verschaffelt no longer has to live under a curfew while he waits for drugs charges to be dealt with.
Verschaffelt, 51, faced charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and attempting to pervert the course of justice when he appeared in North Shore District Court today, for the third time.
He was charged last year but since his first court appearance has been living under a court-imposed curfew, and reporting to police.
Today his lawyer Allan Roberts argued successfully that Verschaffelt's reporting to police could be reduced to three times a week.
When Mr Roberts queried the curfew, it was removed by the judge, who said there didn't appear to be a need for it.
Verschaffelt was working for Housing New Zealand at the time of the alleged offences. He was alleged to have used Housing New Zealand cars to collect the ingredients for late-night cook-ups of the methamphetamine P.
He hosted the 1990 television show Made In New Zealand and worked as a business radio journalist. He also headed communications for the Auckland City Council.
Verschaffelt will appear in court again on May 16. Another man charged jointly with Verschaffelt, Gregor Wilesmith, 58, was due to appear in court tomorrow.
