KEY POINTS:
Two men facing charges related to the kidnapping of a honeymooning Dutch couple have appeared in the Kaikohe District Court.
Twenty nine-year-old Keith McEwen and 27-year-old Christopher Manuel face 14 charges jointly including rape, abduction and aggravated robbery.
The charges relate to an incident where a Dutch couple holidaying in New Zealand were kidnapped at gunpoint last November.
When the accused stood in the dock this morning, McEwen kept his eyes fixed on the ground while Manuel acknowledged a supporter in the public gallery.
They were remanded in custody and will reappear on February 19.
