What a week - especially for the weather, I can't believe the rubbish that was thrown at the course and yet it has come up trumps once again.
The 9-Holers had a Putting and Shoot Out round and the winner was Jill Colton who also recorded the best putts with 16; well done Jill.
There was a tie for runner-up and the two involved were Sandra Burgess and Carol Parkinson both with 18 putts. Nearest the Pin on No 16 was Nita Edwards.
The 18-Holers played a Medal round with the winner Sylvia Beavis with a nett 72. Good round Sylvia and I see you were fourth in the Putting with 32 putts. Runner-up was Jenny Wilkie with a 74, Lyle Griffiths third with 76 and on 77 were Janet Lankow and Robyn Blackett. The putting was won on a count back by Alice Forward from Kaye McIsaac with 31 putts, third with 32 was Gail Freeman on a count back.
Twos were recorded by Diana Donald, Kaye McIsaac and Adele Cairns so 23 women played some pretty good golf despite the nasty weather.
Twenty-nine ventured out to play for Thursday Club and the weather was not the flashest either but that didn't stop Matt Thomas from taking out the top spot with an incredible 40 points; a well deserved win Matt. Three on 38 included Terry Blacktop, Graeme McIsaac and Stu Taplin; Bill Jago with 37 was next closely followed by Graham Jacobson, Shayne Hammond and Bill Jones all with 36. Nearest the Pin was Graham McIsaac who also got his two along with Shayne Hammond, Dougie Clark, Graham Jacobson and Anthony North. I see Garth Edwards didn't have the best of days.
So to Saturday and after a remarkable day of lightning, thunder, wind and hail only one person completed his round and won the competition - none other than Adrian Blackett. He also won Nearest the Pin, Best Gross, best stableford and a huge round of applause. I heard Walter Barber ran the fastest 100 metres seen at Martinborough for the past 125 years when a bolt of lightning and the clap of thunder that followed sent him racing back to the clubhouse for safety leaving his golf clubs behind.
While on the juniors, little George Wilkins has been in touch with the Titleist firm seeking sponsorship but unfortunately he was a tad young for any but he did get a lovely reply from them.
Sunday and once again the weather didn't play its part but 26 toughed the elements and the winner was Sandra Peterson with an amazing 7-up which was helped by an extra four shots!
Runners-up with 4-up on par were Bob Goodley, Peter Hudson and that tireless worker for the club Ian Henderson while 3-up was recorded by Wayne Hunter, Terry Blacktop and Walter Barber. Well done Walter, you deserve a reward for the hours of practice you put in. Sandra and Roger Parkinson recorded the only twos of the day and once again it was great to see about 10 Eketahuna members enjoying the course.
On a final note, I heard Shane Hartnell was seen buying tickets for the Police Ball the other week!
Good Golfing & Good Luck
