KEY POINTS:
A Wellington couple with a leaky home have won more than half of what they claimed in damages to the Weathertight Homes Resolution Service.
Yvonne Ong and Guan Lee Yeoh wanted $478,926 in damages for their leaky home in the suburb of Ngaio.
They were awarded $273,232 in a decision by adjudicator Tony Dean, a Sunday newspaper reported today.
The home built in 1995-96 had cracks through its external walls and leaks through the main bedroom, lounge, garage and family room.
The judgment split the bill four ways, with designer and builder Anthony Robert Muir liable for $127,120, plasterer Brian Andreoli and fellow worker Shane Rona up for $68,309 each and Wellington City Council to pay $9495.
The damages included $14,300 for alternative accommodation, costed at $550 for 26 weeks.
Mr Muir, through his mother Judy Muir -- a co-director in building company Ridvan Garden Developments -- told the paper he was getting legal advice and did not want to comment.
Mr Andreoli said he intended challenging the judgment.
The Weathertight Homes Resolution Service's highest award since it was set up in 2002 was $277,982.
