About two months ago Lee Nicholls and his partner were victims of road rage on the streets of West Auckland, possibly involving a drunk driver.
After a series of passing manoeuvres and car chases in which the offender tried to ram the couple off the road, the incident climaxed in a beer bottle being thrown from one car towards the other.
To this day Mr Nicholls and his partner have not heard anything of a police investigation. The offender's driving had terrified his screaming partner and, despite being on the phone with a 111 operator while trying to get away from the "lunatic", Mr Nicholls said no unit was dispatched.
He was simply told by the police operator to drive to the nearest police station, which he found "unbelievable and ridiculous", particularly as he had the licence plate number of the offending car.
What worried Mr Nicholls most was that a possibly drunk driver remained behind the wheel that day, "because if this guy didn't kill us he would surely kill someone else".
The day after the incident, Mr Nicholls attempted to make a formal complaint at Onehunga and Avondale police stations, but found both stations closed.
"When I put the report in via the police website, I got a letter saying that a letter would be sent to the driver concerned."
As far as Mr Nicholls was aware, nothing had been done to resolve the case.
"I believe this guy got away without any charges pressed."
