A couple were rescued after they became lost on Mt Te Kinga in the Lake Brunner area last night.
The couple in their 20s had gone for a day walk to the summit and lost the track on the way back down, police said.
They called for help about 7.30pm.
Search co-ordinator Constable Rhys Martin said Hokitika Landsar volunteers found the couple about 11pm and walked them back down.
They were dressed only for a day walk and did not have sufficient gear for a night in the open.
