A couple escaped serious injury after the car in which they were travelling left the road on State Highway 2 north of Masterton yesterday.
Masterton Fire Service station officer Garry Nielsen said a man driving the Nissan vehicle had failed to negotiate a sweeping corner near the intersection of the highway and Kaiparoro Rd.
The car left the road and came to rest in a roadside culvert.
He said the vehicle narrowly missed a power pole and a woman passenger had to be extricated from the car with suspected chest injuries and bruising.
He said the driver also received bruising in the crash.
