Gay couple Amanda Fail and Jay Blair hope a spot on Mitre 10 Dream Home will give them the family home they desperately need.
Like the other five finalist families, Amanda, 31, and Jay, 29, pictured with their family, have lived through the Canterbury earthquakes and faced a lifetime of challenges in the past two years. On top of that the couple, who have been together for 2 years, have worked hard to raise a family in a same-sex relationship.
"Being a gay couple, people obviously have different opinions and views. We want to show New Zealand our individual personalities separately as well as us together and as a family," Amanda said. "We have been through family separations and being in a same sex relationship has been a challenge for both of us and also the children."
The other hopefuls include firefighter Manu Clarkson, 33, who rescued the injured from the collapsed CTV Building, his fiance Danielle McManus and their three children; Martyn and Sarah Gillies who have two biological children and four foster children; Jarrad and Casey Murphy and their two children; Damian and Crystal Vercoe and their two children; and Riki and Whitney Wilson and their two boys.
TVNZ said it hoped the show would produce some great television moments.
