The Pride of New Zealand Awards has received its first Wairarapa nomination.
George and Shirley Groombridge, Masterton, have been nominated in the Community Spirit category.
The definition of this category is "those whose selfless, tireless and largely unacknowledged actions have enriched the lives of those in their community".
Their nominator, who wished to remain anonymous, described how Mr and Mrs Groombridge, "despite ill health, dress up and walk the main street of Masterton... it gets extremely hot here during this period but they walk around with a basket of lollypops, talk to young and old alike, attend many functions and are always cheerful, smiling and very caring. I hope they continue for many more years to come."
Mrs Groombridge said they want to acknowledge their gratitude to their unknown nominator.
