A couple were attacked during a home invasion in the Auckland suburb of Te Atatu early today.
Inspector Barry Smalley, of the police northern communications centre, said the couple were awoken about 2am when a group of males began knocking on their door.
"Before the male occupant was able to open the door a group of men burst into the property and attacked the couple," he said.
The attackers quickly fled the scene in two cars.
The victims thought their attackers comprised of about eight men and a woman.
Mr Smalley said the male victim suffered a deep cut to the hand during the attack.
