Couple accused of ruining Fiji holidays face further charges

A couple alleged to have ruined people's holidays in Fiji face four new charges.

Anita Cranston, 34, and Craig Mudgeway, 48, appeared at the Auckland District Court today to face four new charges of obtaining $2225 from an Australian Company.

The pair also face 23 other charges of a similar nature, relating to other complainants.

APNZ understands the pair are alleged to have taken bookings for a holiday home in Fiji and kept deposits from customers who couldn't stay there.

Police charge sheets lodged with the court allege that Mudgeway and Cranston took the money from a company called Your View or Mine.

The company is registered in Australia, according to the Australian Securities & Investments Commission.

The pair are currently on bail in a seaside holiday township, north of Auckland.

A police prosecutor told the court that police had done a check of the address and found "no signs of life" with curtains drawn and the lawns long.

He said police were asking that the pair both report to a police station.

Judge Roderick Joyce QC did not agree.

"There are people in this world who don't mow their lawns."

Their lawyer Tony Bouchier said they were keeping their curtains drawn because of the high media interest.

The pair are due back in court later this month.
