KEY POINTS:
A Hamilton couple who allegedly broke into 12 vehicles in a Waikato beach community yesterday while their two children were watching have been arrested.
The couple were allegedly carrying out the thefts in Raglan, 48km west of Hamilton, while their children, aged three and 14, were watching.
Constable Pere Paea of Raglan Police said they may have broken into more than 12 cars.
"Those are the ones we know about, there may be more and we'd like to hear from anyone who may have been broken into but have yet to notify police," he said.
"The break-ins were being carried out by their parents in full view of the kids."
Most of the burglaries occurred around carparks in Raglan, Mr Paea said.
A man in his thirties and a woman aged 25, both from Hamilton, have been charged with theft in connection with the incidents.
Mr Paea said six of the 12 people burgled had come forward to claim their property and police were keen to return the rest.
"I know of one victim who was in a rush to get back to Auckland and there's probably more out there we'd like to hear from."
Anyone else who thought their car may have been broken into in Raglan have been asked to contact police.
