Counselling will be offered to the driver of a train that hit and killed a man in Auckland last night.
The incident happened at Puhinui Railway Station in Papatoetoe just before 11pm, police said.
Transdev suburban rail network spokesman Mark Hannan said he had not yet heard from the company's operator about the wellbeing of the driver, but said it was company policy to automatically offer support in instances like this.
"We are assisting the police and the driver is being offered support," Mr Hannan said. The support would include counselling "if he wants it".
"He would be offered counselling in that situation because it's very hard on the driver, obviously."
