Wairarapa councils are hopeful a scheme to recycle unwanted televisions will be running soon, as the country prepares to switch to digital television.
The three Wairarapa district councils had hoped a region-wide scheme would be in place before Christmas.
Masterton District Council assets and operations manager David Hopman said he was hopeful a collection service would be running soon.
"We have worked through the options that are available for the collection of e-waste in Wairarapa and made a recommendation regarding a preferred supplier," he said. "There are still details to be finalised before the agreements can be signed and a report will go to Masterton District Council this month, once this work has been completed."
The Government's TV TakeBack scheme will also be launched later this year in a bid to divert up to 500,000 televisions from landfill. It involves the Government partnering with a range of recyclers and retailers to provide subsidised options.
