KEY POINTS:
The Auckland Regional Council has decided to impose a regional fuel tax on Aucklanders.
It will submit a formal proposal to the Government for approval before the end of the week.
Transport committee chairwoman Christine Rose says the ARC hopes to have the tax in place by next July. She says it will be a maximum of 1c a litre next year and can rise to 2c a litre after that.
