The Wellington City Council has accepted responsibility for a faulty fence through which a man fell to his death earlier this month.
Michael Webby was killed after falling through a gap in a missing railing in Kelburn's Glenmore St and plunging 20 metres down a bank. He and his girlfriend were returning home at 2am after attending the soccer match between David Beckham's LA Galaxy team and the Wellington Phoenix.
Council chief executive Garry Poole says paperwork dating back to the 1930s has been found, which confirms the council is responsible for the path. The files have been handed to police.
