The Manukau City Council has taken the first step in its bid for increased powers to control graffiti.
The Manukau City Council (Control of Graffiti) Bill passed its first reading in Parliament yesterday and was sent to the local government select committee for public submissions.
The bill was presented by Manurewa MP George Hawkins. It passed its first reading on a 106-11 vote, with the Greens and the Maori Party opposing it.
