A teacher convicted of driving at almost double the legal alcohol limit is facing a Teachers Council investigation.
Victoria Bernadette Hutchinson, 31, of Hillsborough, was fined $850 and disqualified from driving for seven months when she appeared in the Manukau District Court last week.
She pleaded guilty and was convicted of having a breath alcohol reading of 796mcg on Weymouth Rd, Manurewa on February 27. The legal adult limit is 400mcg.
Mt Eden Normal Primary principal John Faire confirmed Hutchinson was a teacher at the school.
He said he had dealt with the situation in a way that was consistent with her union's collective employment agreement guidelines.
New Zealand Teachers Council director Peter Lind said the teacher and court registrar had seven working days to notify the council of the conviction.
The case would then go before the complaints assessment committee to investigate Hutchinson's "character and fitness to be a teacher". Hutchinson refused to comment when approached on Friday.
