Masterton District Council is to reap a cash harvest of more than $500,000 having this week let a tender for the harvesting and marketing of a council-owned forestry block at Kaituna.
The tender to harvest the 23-hectare of mature pines has been let to Farman Turkington Forestry "in the minimum sum of $508,000".
Council put out the public tender which resulted in six companies submitting bids in the form of stumpage, managed harvest and sale and lump sum purchase contracts.
Council assets manager David Hopman said the managed harvest and sale tender submitted by Farman Turkington Forestry included a guaranteed minimum return to council, thereby offering the best value of the six companies who submitted bids.
