Auckland City Council is backing Springs Promotion's appeal to the High Court in an attempt to ensure Western Springs remains the city's home of speedway.
In January, the Environment Court passed an interim ruling that speedway events must comply with noise levels outlined in the District Plan.
The substantive Environment Court hearing to rule on resident's noise concerns is still pending.
Springs Promotions Limited is appealing the interim court decision on the grounds that it has existing use rights for speedway racing at Western Springs Stadium.
Auckland Mayor Dick Hubbard said speedway at the springs had the full support of the city council.
He said: "We have a unanimous council resolution to explore every option to ensure speedway racing continues at Western Springs.
"We are still working towards this goal and are committed to having speedway at the springs for many years to come."
