Costume drama: Being Elsa

Rebekah Palmer says work as a party entertainer lets her "create magic and make little girls and boys feel special for the day".

Rebekah Palmer has tried her hand at playing most of Disney's princesses, from Snow White to Ariel, but one character is the undisputed reigning queen among them.

"It's definitely Elsa, because Elsa is so now," Ms Palmer said.

"I've had little girls just completely freak out and hide behind Mum and not even want to hang out with me because they're so overwhelmed by seeing Elsa."

Ms Palmer started working weekends as a children's party entertainer after graduating from film school because she needed work and thought it sounded fun.

Now with a string of parties under her belt, Ms Palmer confirmed that not only was her job entertaining, it was fulfilling because of how happy it made the children she worked with.

"It's probably the best job in the world," she said. "Nobody has a job quite like it."

Ms Palmer said although she was still looking for acting work, she loved working as a party entertainer because it let her "create magic and make little girls and boys feel special for the day".

Although some children might be shy or overwhelmed at first, others would run up to her when she arrived at a party to give her a huge hug.

"Sometimes kids will run right into your arms as if you're an old friend," she said.

The biggest challenge, Ms Palmer said, was being quick enough to answer any question a child might have, especially when sceptical older siblings questioned her authenticity as a princess.

"Kids can throw anything at you at any time and you have to have a little comeback or a reaction," she said. "They keep you on your toes.

"I think it's actually great for acting and improvising. No two parties are the same no matter how well you plan, because [every kid reacts differently]."
