KEY POINTS:
Christopher Harder's bid to be allowed to practise law again cost more than $250,000 - but taxpayers have been spared most of the bill.
Mr Harder's costs to employ Queen's Counsel Colin Pidgeon totalled $6739.
This was covered by legal aid but, as Mr Harder was required to contribute up to $20,000, he must reimburse the Legal Services Agency this amount.
The Law Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal said the New Zealand Law Society costs for the hearing exceeded $125,000 and the Auckland District Law Society costs exceeded $100,000.
The cost of the three-day tribunal hearing was $35,900.
