The Department of Corrections is appealing against the Employment Court's decision to award former Otahuhu probation officer Chris Gilbert damages for job stress.
The Community Probation Service general manager, Ann Clark, said an appeal had been lodged but she declined to comment further because the case was ongoing.
The court awarded 55-year-old Mr Gilbert $175,000 plus a lump sum equivalent of 14 years' earnings - a payout amounting to around $1 million. Mr Gilbert argued job stress forced him to retire aged 51.
