In April last year, we reported that Kim Dotcom was under investigation by the New Zealand Transport Agency for using multiple names to register motor vehicles.
That was not correct.
On the same day, we also published a story about a "Facebook hacker" who claimed to be in New Zealand. Both of these stories were referred to on the front page of that day's Herald on Sunday.
Mr Dotcom is not the "Facebook hacker", and the positioning of the two stories in print was not intended to suggest that he was.
We apologise to Kim Dotcom for the embarrassment caused to him and his family.
Mr Dotcom's philanthropy has been a feature of his time in New Zealand. He put on a $500,000 plus fireworks display over Auckland last New Year's Eve; donated to the victims of the Canterbury quakes, and most recently is donating $90,000 to the Starship Foundation.
