KEY POINTS:
Three people, including a pregnant woman, were airlifted to safety last night after they were stranded on Paratutai Island, near Whatipu, by the rising tide.
The Westpac rescue helicopter winched them from the rocky outcrop in 45km/h winds.
Paramedic Jock Stewart said: "They were glad to see us otherwise it would have been a long, cold night."
