A police detective has been charged with drink driving.
Wayne Dennis Mead, 33, a detective constable at Counties Manukau CIB, was stopped on Karangahape Rd in central Auckland on February 17.
He allegedly gave a breath alcohol reading of 619mcg. The limit is 400mcg.
Mead appeared before Auckland District Court last week.
He did not enter a plea and was remanded on bail until March 25.
He is represented by Rice Craig partner Paul Borich, who specialises in drink driving and transport law.
Mead lives in Hillsborough with his partner, Elaine Towers.
He told the Herald on Sunday he was forbidden to talk to the media about the charge.
Mead is on restricted duties pending the court proceedings and is at least the second officer to appear in court on drink driving charges this year.
