"Well done to her." Mr Cleaver said.
"She did an outstanding job getting a description of one of the males."
Mr Cleaver said the boys had unsuccessfully tried to force their way through the downstairs window of a home.
When the boys were stopped on Fairway Dr and spoken to by police it was found they allegedly had property taken from a nearby house.
The boys were taken to Whangarei police station. Mr Cleaver said they could face burglary-related charges which would see them referred to the police Youth Aid section.
It is the first week of the school holidays and police have issued a clear warning for parents: "Know where your kids are and know what they are doing."
